The College of Engineering at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette has received a $1 million grant from the Board of Regents Support Fund (BORSF) to enhance its materials testing capabilities. Under the leadership of Dr. Mohammad Jamal Khattak from the Civil Engineering Department, this project will enable significant upgrades to the Huval Materials Design and Development Laboratory, including advanced nano to macro scale testing equipment.

“This project will position our College of Engineering among the nation’s top institutions in the development of the next-generation infrastructure materials,” Dr. Khattak stated.

This initiative brings together multiple departments from the College of Engineering and the College of Sciences to advance materials for infrastructure, biomedical devices, composite materials for aerospace applications. It will support ongoing multimillions of dollars of research efforts and help attract additional funding from both private and government sources.

The five-year plan will also strengthen research partnerships, increase industry collaboration, and improve workforce training, positioning UL Lafayette as a leader in materials research and improving Louisiana’s economy.
