Civil Infrastructure Materials Research
The Civil and Environmental Engineering Department is a leader in infrastructural materials research, dedicated to designing and developing both conventional and advanced materials to address the evolving challenges of modern engineering. Our work emphasizes smart, resilient, and sustainable solutions, driving innovation across diver seapplications, including pavement systems, transportation materials, and eco-friendly construction materials. Our expertise spans cutting-edge areas such as hot mix asphalt, road base materials, geopolymer and fly ash-based concrete, ultra-high-performance concrete, and engineered cementitious composites. Through acommitment to innovation and collaboration, we aim to enhance material performance and durability while advancing sustainability and resilience in infrastructure systems.
The following are the key areas of research:
1. Advanced characterization of infrastructure and transportation materials
2. Application of nanotechnologies for developing Smart infrastructure materials
3. Sustainable Green Construction materials including, industrial biproducts based geopolymer concretes, blended concretes, oil well cementing, and so forth.
4. Development of Ultra High-Performance Concretes (Cement and Geopolymer)
5. Pavement design, pavement management, and performance modeling
6. Nondestructive testing and pavement performance evaluation
7. Numerical modeling of materials and pavement structures
The department houses state-of-the-art equipment and advanced integrated system of laboratory facilities, including dedicated labs for Asphalt Materials, Concrete and Geopolymer Materials, Geotechnical Engineering, and Materials Mechanical Testing. These advanced resources enable cutting-edge research and innovation, positioning the department at the forefront of civil engineering advancements.
