Mission Statement
Educational Objectives

MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the Civil Engineering Department is to provide for a contemporary civil engineering education for the students, and is in keeping with the mission for all students as defined by the University. It provides a broad based civil engineering curriculum in structures, geotechnical, water resources, environmental, and transportation engineering, including a program designed to utilize learned technical skills, accompanied by communicative skills, teamwork and leadership qualities. This mission envisions graduates employable by local, national, and international firms and with a sound educational foundation for those who pursue advanced degrees.

In addition, the Department’s Mission is designed to assist industries and government agencies through the application of civil engineering knowledge and an understanding of infrastructure needs and problems; developing required research programs with measurable results for implementation and with the expectation of improving the quality of life and economic well-being of this area.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

In accordance with the mission of the University of Louisiana, the College of Engineering and the Department of Civil Engineering, the program’s educational objectives are to produce graduates who:

  • Are immediately employable as a Civil Engineering Intern or prepared to continue in a graduate or professional program
  • Can achieve and maintain status as a Professional Engineer, and participate in professional engineering organizations and/or other professional activities
  • Are effective civil engineers and understand their responsibility to their profession and community
