All structural systems require the use of specialized materials selected by civil engineers and architects. These materials can include: metals, wood, concrete, asphalt, and soil. The Materials Testing Laboratory contains two MTS load frames for conducting experiments and analysis on these and other materials. For example, equipment in the Materials Testing Laboratory can be used to test concrete for strength. The department also uses this equipment to support local industry. |
